Digital Diaries & Authenticity Drivers: Why Blogs matter in business

It seems fitting to begin ID’s own blog with a pertinent question I get asked often:

Why do blogs matter when it comes to a business’s digital presence?

Blogs do a lot more for your digital presence than you may realise. They can be time consuming, many people find them difficult, but keeping an up-to-date one will benefit your business astronomically. Here are some key reasons why:

  1. A blog boosts your Google ranking. Fresh, valuable content tells Google that what you say has authority. Google bases its rankings (the system which manages what you see first on Google when you search something) on the content on your website, how relevant and factual it is, and how often you are updating your content. Keeping track of these aspects is part of something we call search engine optimisation (SEO). Having a blog allows you to have regular content to post, keeping your website from going stagnant, and falling in Google’s rankings.

  2. Blogs create authenticity. Research shows that clients are more likely to buy from a business that has a personal presence, rather than a large, looming corporate one. People want to know how your business works, who your staff are, and what you value. The more authentic you are with your potential client base, the more clients will trust you and be likely to buy from you. In saying this, being authentic does not mean being unprofessional. Tone is key — which is where my next point comes in…

  3. Blogs build branding. Creating a brand that is recognisable across social platforms is absolutely crucial to your business’s online success. Keeping a company blog helps to build your brand voice and tone, which you can then keep consistent across all of your social networks, making your brand instantly recognisable amongst the crowd.

  4. Blogs are a great source of repurposeable content. It’s near impossible to come up with thirty fresh ideas for six social platforms a month. Blogs help you take some of the stress out of social posting, as they can be a great source of repurposeable content. Pick an aspect from your blog post to turn into a social post, pick a quote to expand upon, use the long-form nature of blogging to your advantage socially.

  5. Blogs show thought leadership. Blogs help to showcase your expertise in your chosen field. By showcasing your business’s talents and strong points through a blog, you are building client trust, growing, and nurturing your audience all at the same time.

Blogs can be daunting to start, but there is no doubt in today’s digitally cut- throat world that they are worth it. They are one of the quickest and easiest ways to build and nurture your audience. Give one a go, or get in touch and let us get you started!
